Best Alternative PS3 Controllers
There are currently two official Sony PlayStation controllers, which are the original SIXAXIS wireless controller, and the Dualshock 3 vibrating controller. However, there are a lot of alternatives, cheaper alternatives. I have to say though, the original design of the PlayStation controller is the best for gaming… better than the XBOX blob they call a controller. I’m going to go through the most popular controllers and let you guys know which is best (although I believe the original Sony controllers are the best).
Wireless Turbo 3 Controller (Hori)
This is currently the leading alternative online, probably because it is the most comfortable. It comes with a built in sleep efature, which lowers power usage after 3 minutes of being idle (not being used). It also comes with 2.4GHz Bluetooth and up to 10 metres of wireless function. BUT, it does come with a pretty hefty price tag, and it would be worth buying the official Sixaxis or Dualshock 3 controller for about £10 more.
Powerplay Wireless Controller (Powerplay)
This is the second best selling alternative controller. Again, this one is wireless, and also integrates a sleeping function. Like tho official controllers, this one uses LED lights to show it is working, and uses an alert to show it is running low on battery. This is a pretty good value alternative as well, at £20 less than an original Sony controller, while also including the features of an original controller. One problem is the shape.
Logitech Cordless Action Controller (Logitech)
To be honest, this one looks like one of the most uncomfortable controllers, but it is easily the priciest. It includes a PS button, Analogue Sticks, and a 2 year guarantee. But is it worth £27.99? I think not!
Those are the three most popular alternative PS3 controllers. They’re not bad, but none of them measure up to the official Sony models. Take my advice and go the extra mile by spending an extra tenner for your added gaming pleasure. To buy the original Sixaxis Controller, click here

To be honest it is all about personal preferance. I find the Sony controllers so unconfortable after a few hours of gaming compared to the XB360’s. I wish I could for my situation use the XB360 controller with my PS3 (I actually get hand pain). I am also struggling to find a non-biased review of alternative controllers – this review does not mention anything about hands on time with these controllers. Also, what is the ThrustMaster controllers like? Ah well, one day I may find a controller I like, so until then I will just keep on buying more games for my XB360 than PS3. The old black machine is turning into a white elephant in my house because of this.
