Remember when the PSP was the must have handheld? With exclusive titles, cutting edge graphics (for a handheld system) and great extra functions as well as the introduction of Sony’s trademark XMB. The PSP also introduced UMD, Sony’s new disc format whick signalled the beginning of a new dimension of portable gaming. OK, enough of the sweet talk… lets get down to what happened next… PIRATES!
Yup, you heard it. Video game pirates were the PSPs downfall, as well as it’s notorious ability to downgrade your firmware, to make it possible to diownload full games online. Great for the gamers… not so good for Sony! So, Sony went ahead and released a slimline version of their handheld and… no one bought it. Now, Sony has a solution, which will hopefully bring the PSP back to life for the long term.
Sony have launched Go!, which so far offers portable Sat Nav, an Instant Messaging service, a camera add-on (video and images) and, best of all Go! View, which allows you to watch any of your favourite Sky TV shows on the Go!
Now, this all sounds pretty good to me, and it sounds like Sony are trying really hard to keep up their reputation after the past downfalls of the PS3. At first I was a little skeptical about the whole thing, but it all seems worthwile. The only thing I would say, though, is taht the PSP is a games console, albeit a small one, and Sony should maybe try to focus a little more on the quality of games that come out on the PSP. How about some more ports from the PS1: titles like Tekken 3 and Tomb Raider would be perfect for Sony’s platform, and wouldn’t be hard to
