It’s no surprise that all of Sony’s consoles… aren’t just consoles. The PS2 was the first excellent quality Media Player/Gaming console out, and that’s why it sold sooo well. The PSP is great for watching movies on the go, but we’re all aware that it’s dying fast and it probably needs a few more hacks exposed to pring it back to life. The PS3 is obviously being promoted as a media system with more features than… something with quite a few featuires. Almost every week we see another feature of the PS3 exposed on the web, showing us the true extent of it’s capabilities. It’s a wonder Sony doesn’t promote these features at all, really.

So here are some of the hacks. tips and trick Sony hides from us for all the current PS consoles.

PSP

The PSP is probably the most obviously hackable contraption Sony’s ever come up with… That’s exactly why it sells, but apart from the easily downgradable abilities, this is the one ‘hack’ that made me fall in love with this portable gem:

A PSP Hack which allows the user to control their home appliances through the PSP

Control your Home with your PSP. No, I don’t mean spank your children and get the dinner ready, I mean control your lights, yout TV/Tivo, and maybe even… Your PS3! Here’s the original source:

PS2

The following hack makes me sad that I spent… £40 to let someone ‘chip’ my PS2 all those years ago. I mean, it was well worth it, considering how much money i saved in the first place, but it did shorten myconsole’s lifespan by about 2 years. The following tutorial shows you how to play burned PS2/PS1 games on a PS2 without a mod-chip. BOOHOO!

The old way to play burnt PS2 games

PS3

This is what you’ve all been waiting for, and I’ll bet you’re wondering why I was banging on about those ooooldies. Anyway, now we get onto the real cutting edge of hacks and tricks in the gaming world.

Free Video chat is one of the most secret and hidden features of the PS3. And I guess it isn’t really’chat’ so to speak, but it does allow you to communicate via video with your friends list. All you need is a USB Headset and an Eyetoy Camera, maybe even a PS3 and wireless internet access (just maybe). Now just go to your PSN friends list and start a text convo. Type in ‘Videochat?’ and off you go. To be successful, the other member of the convo must have a headset and a camera.

Upgrading your Hard Drive is actually easier than it sounds. It is simply a matter of replacing your 60GB or 40GB hard drive with a bigger (or smaller) one of the same model.

PS3 hard drive upgrade

If you find the Hard Drive compartment of your PS3 and unscrew the thing, you’ll find a Seagate Momentus 5400rpm 2.5inch SATA hard drive. Everyone I’ve asked/read suggests to replace it with a drive of the same model, e.g. a Seagate Momentus 120GB 2.5inch SATA drive because it is guaranteed to work perfectly. I haven’t actually done this, but I recommend if you try to do it, google it.. NOW so you are fully in the know.

Playing games from another country is also a lot easier these days. I’m pretty surprised at this one, but it’s all over the place. The PS3 is not region coded, neither are the games LOL, so if you’re on holiday and you find…. GTA IV for a record £5, you can make the purchase comfortably, knowing you won’t be disappointed when you get back home.

NOTE: Blu-ray DVDs ARE REGION CODED unless the back cover states thatr the disc can play in Regions 1, 2 and 3. Thought you ought to know.

I hope you guys enjoyed this… stuff and maybe put some of them to use. I’ve been very careful not to include any immoral or illegal hacks on the list, so you should be safe listening to me =D.
