It’s my duty as a PS3 blogger to show off it’s many uses as much as I can, so occasionally you will see some Blu-ray reviews and I just couldn’t pass this one up. No Country for Old Men is a great movie and has retuned me to movies, as I have sort of lost a connection with Hollywood… because of gaming (lol). No Country for Old men returns to storytelling and leaves the technology and special effects out (mostly).

The film follows three main characters: Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) and Anton Chigurh (javier Bardem). It’s a classic story of the bad guy, Anton, going after the good guy, Llewelyn and another good guy in the background keeping the good guy safe, The Sheriff! Got all that?

The Film:

The story is set in the 1980’s West Texas, and Mexicans and all! Now for the plot. As I said, the story follows 3 major characters, but only two are really, really focused on. The two central haracters are Anton Chigurh and Llewelyn Moss.

Moss is an Vietnam Veteran, a soldier turned welder just to put ends together for him and his wife, Carla Jean (Kelly MacDonald). The movie begins with a voiceover by Tommy Lee AKA Sheriff Ed, opening with a little rambling about him, being a sheriff and all that. The we meet Llewelyn staruing down the barrel of a long ranged rifle, scoping out a deer or something. He misses the shot (what a shame) and heads off. That’s when he finds all the moneyzzzzz. Under a tree in the distance he sees a Mexican, shot up and tired. Once he’s totally conked, Moss heads over to see what’s up. He finds the guy dead with a briefcase full of drug money.

No more spoilers, now it’s purely a review. Moss is built up to be established as a hard-working guy who just wanted a break, now he finds himself seperated from his beloved wife, on different sides of the country (?) with some big guys and one really big guy after him. That’s where good ole Anton pops up. We actually see him at the beginning, during the voiceover where he strangles the officer to death.

Anton tracks Llewelyn down constantly throughout the movie, by ways which I will not disclose to you guys because I don’t want to spoil the movie. Basically, Moss and Llewlyn meet… more than a few times and it gets bloody. Anton is quickly built up into a manipulative, smooth talking madman who always gets what he wants, usually.

Sheriff Ed is soon to be retired, and simply wants to protect a stranger (Llewelyn) from danger as he goes on the run from home to… nowhere. He follows Moss, at his own elderly pace and is established as an older version of Moss.

The relationships between characters and their own personaliities are major aspects of this movie. They help set the scene and their demeanours partly tell the story on their own.

I love this movie, and I’m pretty sure you guys would as well. I give it 10/10, I hardly ever give 10s for anything, including games but this is one of my new favourite movies.

If you want to save money and enjoy this helluva movie, buy No Country for Old Men from Amazon.
