IGN wrote a killer preview of Blue Omega’s Unreal project, Unreal being the engine that rins the game. You might be a bit weary of the title, but it’s the best I could do: short, Snappy… pretty awful, really.
The name of the game is Damnation, and it’s set 40 years into the American Civil war, but now things have turned nasty…ER! The hero (if you can call him that) is part of an independent military scheme to end the war by wiping out both factions under the power of a tycoon named Prescott. The story gives me a hint of the MGS4 storyline, with the PMCs and the Patriots etc. I wont give too much away, though.
So basically, this guy named Rourke is going off to save the Country of war and deprssion and all that stuff, saving the states one city at a time. Rourke is a naturally acrobatical guy, as a standard in 3rd person shooters, so surely the game’s going to be easy peasy, right? WRONG. According to IGN, the game features no map, no objective blinky dot thingy or any other ‘find-your-way’ kind of aid. You have to find your way to the end of the level on your own. Just like Tomb Raider or Uncharted (hence the title). As a result, there are ‘usually 10 or 12 ways to get to the end of a stage’.
This game sound promising, but I’m sure we’ll be in for a long wait as it looks to be one of the most adventurous games of this gaming generation.
