Yesterday I wrote a bit of a rant about the fact that the PS3 has no party games and, lets face it, lacks a bit of charisma in some of the games, as they are so serious. But then comes Hail To The Chimp, a Political Party game. Reading the summary, it seems Animal Farm inspired, but the whole concept is actually pretty charming. Party games are supposed to be a little stupid, but fun. This game turns that whole thing on it’s head.
Here’s the story. The lion (the inherited king of the jungle) is a good and fair leader, but was kicked off his throne. So, the animals give democracy a try and hold a series of task to determine the new leader. This gives every animal, no matter what size, color etc. will have a chance to rule.
The gameplay is based on 10 candidants, who work their best to form alliances and/or enemies. The game seems pretty varied and includes a lot of different game types.
It also tackles the grittiest bits of politics, and also shows that Democracy may just be the best of a bad bunch. In the game, things soon turn nasty, and instead of working to create a peaceful community like when the lion ruled, the battle soon turns into a vicious free-for-all. But hey, what game doesn’t have a bit of friendly/evil competition.
Although the game handles a pretty serious topic, the game sounds like a fun one to play with friends, or, indeed, at a party. The game is set for release in America on the 24th June ‘08.
