I was browsing in Play.com yesterday and came across the new Gears of War, now available for preorder. It is due for release in mid November. I played the first installment of Gears of War on a friend’s XBOX 360, and all I can say, is that it is the PS3’s biggest threat with regards to games.

Now, onto the competition. It is looking like Resistance 2 will be the main competition to GoW2, as they are both exclusives to the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360, respectively. A few weeks ago, I was convinced that HAZE, aso being a PS3 Exclusive title, would be the GoW2 killer. But now I’m drifting more towards Resistance 2.

It’s obvious that both games will have major improvements from the first games. I have to admit that Gears of War (1) was a significatly better game than Resistance: Fall of Man, but, that being said, Resistance: FoM was a great game, and did a lot for the PS3 starting out – as it did have a pretty iffy start when it was first released.

So, back to the point. Will Gears of Way 2’s slightly unusual 3rd person gameplay and other quirks (lets fce it, it was a pretty ‘quirky’ game) allow Resistance 2 to shove it out and outsell it? In other words, will Resistance 2 really be a Gears of War 2 killer and fulfil the series’ main aim.

I hope it does. It would be so great for the PS3 to win another platform battle after it’s whirlwind Blu-ray success a few months back. Wouldn’t that be sweet?
