This is another one of my uneducated rants. Capcom are arguably the cream of the crop when it comes to classic, arcade style beat-em-up games. But Street Fighter IV looks really disappointing (to me, anyway). Didn’t everyone find the Classic 2D, sidescrolling gameplay just a little bit charming? I did, and I’m known to still play Street Fighter: Collection 2 (PS1) on my PS3
on occasion.
This time around, I think Capcom is actually trying to compete with Namco/Bandai, the creators of Tekken and Soul Calibur, which are SF’s main competitors. In actual fact, and I think a lot of people would agree with me, the classic Street Fighter format has beaten Tekken’s and Soul Calibur’s more tech-advanced systems time and time again.
The point is, Capcom doesn’t need to add flashy graphics to make a good game. It’s wierd. I’ve always admired Capcom for never changing their ways, but now I’m leaning towards Tekken or Soul Calibur. Shame.
