So, on my daily Google session, I came across a lot of questions about the different PS3 models i.e. 20GB, 40GB, 60GB and 80GB. Now I know there are a lot of people who think ‘the bigger, the better’. So, I guess there’s only 1 way to sort out these kinds of problems… FIGHT!
20GB
Lets start with the baby of the pack. This model isn’t actually available here in the UK. Yet. And it has been said that Sony are unlikely to release the 20GB model here. So for this bit, I’m using other sources and things I’ve heard.
In the US, this model of the Playstation 3 holds a price tag of $465 (or thereabouts), not a bad price for a gaming system AND a Blu-ray Player eh? Sony’s gained a good deal of criticism for releasing yet another model, but I for one think it’s a good idea. there are a number of reasons holding people back from buying a PS3
, one being the quite heavy price tag (another being Microsoft ). This release is a great opportunity for gamers to get a PS3 console at a great price.
40GB
Now for the bigger brother of the 20GB. This was the second model released, and I was VERY close to buying this model (I ended up getting the last 60GB in London it seemed). It is the ‘cheap alternative’ to the 60GB, although it lacks a LOT of the 60GB’s features. Such as BACKWARDS COMPATABILITY! I knew I would want to reminisce on the PS and PS2 days, so I’m glad I got a model with BC.
Over here (UK), both the 60GB and the 40GB underwent pretty big price drops at Christmas time. The 40GB dropped to about £300 (6$00), and in some shops the 60GB dropped to about £400 ($800). (I actually got a bit scared when Sony said they would discontinue the 60GB PS3’s when they were sold out).
60GB
The original model. In my honest opinion, this is the best of the bunch, so to speak. It reigns in all aspects except for, of course, memory
It pretty much held up the PS3 movement all alone for a good 6 months, while it’s competition (360) launched with 2 models at the beginning. It certainly didn’t help when Microsoft outnumbered them again with the X360 Elite. That’s the main reason I love the 60GB so much.
80GB
This is a good one, it’s a bit like the beaten house-husband, because the mum (60GB) has always been dominant, even though they have pretty much the same features. I think 80GB’s a bit HUGE, but then… Anyway. I don’t really know about this one. It is pretty much the same as the 60GB, so the only difference is the hard drive size.
So, I’ll let you decide which one you lurve, because here at PlayStation Heads, we like free speech. So why don’t you just make a comment?
